Charlotte NC Home Inspector Patrick Waddell of Home Inspection Carolina was inspecting a home on Monday when he noticed this crazy Dr Suess looking drain line under a sink.  All waste lines should have a "p" trap to keep sewage gases from coming back up into the house.  Usually you just see a "p" and then the drain back down the waste line.  If you have an "s" trap the water can actully get sucked out of the trap in which the drain line is open to the sewer.   We are not exactly sure what this is but a hot mess.  It is thought tat maybe he didn't have a mechanical vent with him so he loped it around.  Whatever the reason, Its wrong and should be corrected.

There are many home inspection companies you can choose from when you need a home inspector in Charlotte NC.  Let me tell you why Home Inspection Carolina is your best choice.  These guys have over 100 years of combined home inspection and construction experience.  They fix the small things like rubbing doors and sticking windows instead of putting them on the home inspection report like other home inspectors.  They have a preinspection program designed to help you sell your house by offering you a discount on the inspection and providing you with multiple copies of the report to give out.  They also put out a just inspected sign in the yard of your Charlotte NC home.  Home Inspection Carolina then sends out a "just inspected" email to their data base.  They like to think of it as a premarketing inspection instead of a prelisting inspection.

Two new things that Home Inspection Carolina has started doing are home maintenance videos and customer coupons.  They have a large library of home maintenance videos on youtube so they link to these within the appropriate points in the report.  They also have established relationships with many vendors and contractors that allow them to give coupons to their home inspection clients.  The idea is to provide am entertainment book or citi pass book for new homeowners.  These are just some of the benefits of using Home Inspection Carolina.  If you are buying a home near Charlotte NC call them today.

While recently inspecting a Dilworth home just outside of downtown Charlotte NC home inspector Preston Sandlin noticed a leak by the chimney.  You can see in this picture that there is a leak coming down along side the chimney.  What caused this leak?  It was the flashing around the chimney.  This flashing has failed and caused a leak right around the chimney area.  If flashing is not monitored over time it will leak.

Charlotte Home Inspector Reveal Out of Date Panel Box

Cimg1936

Home Inspection Carolina was recently inspecting a home on the East side of Charlotte NC when they noted this 100 Amp panel box which is out of date by today's standards. This is the original panel box for the house when it was built in the 1950's this 100 Amp service panel would be adequate for the the appliances at the time.  The problem is that now we have dishwashers, washing machines, tv's stereo's dvd players, etc.  Al these new modern appliances draw much more current than is availible from this 100 Amp box.  The breakers will continously flip if not updated.  We recommend that this panel box is increased up to a 200 Amp panel.

Charlotte Home Inspector Explains Chimney Inspection

Cimg1929

Charlotte Home Inspector Explains what to look for on a chimney inspection when performing a home inspection.  From the roof you want to make sure that there aren't any loose bricks.  Then you want to look to make sure that there is a flue and that it's not cracked and all the mortar joints have to be intact.  The chimney cap should be solid and free of cracks.  We also recommend a rain cap and a spark arrestor which aren't present on this house.  Then down in the fireplace you want to make sure the damper works and the chimney is free of creasote.

Charlotte Home Inspection Reveals Hazardous Situation

4806_coppala_drive1

Charlotte NC home inspector Preston Sandlin was inspecting a home in the Cotswald area of Charlotte NC when he noticed a hazardous situation.  The problem with this crawl space is that the insulation is reversed which causes moisture to get trapped.  When this moisture gets trapped it is conducive for termites and mold.  Insulation should always be installed with the paper side adjacent to the heated living area.  This prevents the build up of moisture.

Charlotte Home Home Inspection Reveals Double Tapped Breaker

3101_stoneybrook_report1

Charlotte home inspector Preston Sandlin was performing the electrical portion of the home inspection when he noticed two breakers that where double hitched or double tapped.  People do this either because there isn't an extra place for a new breaker or the person just wired up something new and didn't want to fool with installing a new breaker. Either way it is improper and you are dragging more current through the breaker than it is designed for.  An alternative is that you could install a square d breaker that is designed for a double tap.
